Historical Background
Kisspeptin-10 is the shortest biologically active form of kisspeptin — a family of neuropeptides encoded by the KISS1 gene, named after Hershey, Pennsylvania (the Kisses chocolate brand city) where it was discovered in 1996 as a metastasis suppressor. Its critical role in reproductive physiology was established in 2003 when loss-of-function mutations in the KISS1R receptor were found to cause hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. Kisspeptin is now recognized as the master regulator of GnRH pulsatility — and therefore the entire HPG axis.
What It's Used For
- HPG axis regulation and GnRH pulsatility research
- Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism models
- Fertility and reproductive endocrinology research
- LH surge and ovulation timing studies
- Testosterone stimulation research (males)
- Puberty onset and timing research
- Sexual motivation and behavior studies (KISS1R in limbic system)
Positive Effects
- Potent GnRH secretagogue — stimulates pulsatile GnRH release from hypothalamus
- Triggers LH surge → testosterone production in males / ovulation in females
- Restores LH/FSH pulsatility in hypogonadal animal models
- Acts upstream of GnRH — preserves physiological pulsatility better than direct GnRH agonists
- No receptor desensitization with pulsatile administration (unlike continuous GnRH analogues)
- May stimulate sexual motivation via limbic KISS1R
Potential Side Effects
- Hot flushes (LH surge-mediated vasodilation)
- Transient nausea
- Headache
- Sustained high doses may cause receptor desensitization
- Injection site reactions
Administration
Subcutaneous injection. Pulsatile dosing critical — continuous infusion leads to receptor downregulation. Research protocols use 1–10 nmol/kg IV or subcutaneous bolus. Very short half-life (~28 minutes). Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water; store at 2–8°C.
Research Purposes Only. This product is intended for in-vitro research and laboratory use only. Not for human consumption. Not for veterinary use. Must be handled by qualified research personnel. Keep out of reach of children.
